Quarterdeck Suite Remodel

This past winter we did a major remodel on the Quarterdeck Suite.  The bathroom is completely new with a fresh new shower that includes both an awesome rain head as well as double body sprayers. There is a diverter valve that allows you to use either one independently. The shower has new tile and a brand new glass shower door. We’ve also replaced the vanity with a model that includes some needed storage for personal items as well as a place to store the hair-dryer.

We also added a new fireplace to give added warmth on winter nights, or just a romantic glow without any heat when desired. Above the fireplace you’ll see a new 40″ HDTV flat screen has been wall mounted so that it swivels and can be seen from the bed or the sitting area!

Another focus of the remodel was to make more efficient use of the large space in this 28 foot double suite. Since there was already a separate closet, we removed the unusable wardrobe to add a custom built-in wall bed (or Murphy bed).  This room is now our only room with two beds. The two sleeping areas can be separated for privacy by the historic pocket doors which also were refinished in the remodel. This layout is popular when two adults are traveling together, but don’t necessarily want to share a bed. It can also be used when parents are traveling with a teen who needs more privacy and comfort than a roll-away bed can provide.  In the photo below, the wall bed is shown closed and appears almost like another door at the end of the room.

There were many other upgrades in the process too. All the historic windows were restored with counterweights so they all can be opened without the need for supporting sticks. We added new crown molding to accent the 10 foot ceilings, restored some missing baseboards and some missing rosette moldings on the window frames. New black-out shades were installed so guests can sleep in during the long days of summer. A new shelf was added to the headboard along with extra power outlets and new antique lighting. An antique secretary desk was added to the sitting room. Best of all, we haven’t raised the price of this room!
